ERIN – The Town of Erin has changed course, now electing to close all recreational facilities amid concerns about the coronavirus.
“As COVID-19 continues to spread and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health warns against large gatherings of people, [the town] has made the decision to close all recreation facilities as of [6pm on March 14], until further notice,” states an Erin press release.
Issued at about 9am on March 14, the release notes that “all recreation drop-in programs, services and rentals are cancelled at Erin Community Centre and Hillsburgh Community Centre.”

The closure announcement comes less than 24 hours after town officials announced most town facilities would remain open.
On March 13 Erin officials explained the town has increased the cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch areas such as door handles, customer service counters and handrails and has posted posters with information about how to reduce transmission of the virus.
Residents will also see more hand sanitizer stations in town facilities and face masks can be available for those who want them.
