Nearsighted injustice

Dear Editor:

RE: Truck traffic to be encouraged to use bypass around Fergus, March 5.

There is a moral injustice when a community decides to alleviate the “pain” caused by truck traffic through their community by directing it to another, as Fergus has done to the citizens of Alma.

The myopic vision of “not in my neighbourhood” and proudly dumping the truck burden to another is not a solution, nor is it fair.

The Master Plan adopted in May was shuffled from a stacked deck held by planning members and approved by council members who do not live in Alma – and therefore it will not impact on their lifestyle.

May I suggest to the citizens of Fergus, like our neighbours to the south, that they build a wall around their town as a deterrent to undesirable traffic.

I’m proud of Mapleton Mayor Gregg Davidson for voicing his objection to this skewed and nearsighted plan.

Jacobus de Bock,
