ERIN – Spring must be around the corner since Erin is holding its annual Seedy Saturday event. This year it is March 7, from 10am to 3pm at the Erin United Church, 115 Main Street, Erin.
There will be vendors of seeds, botanicals, maple syrup and rain barrels, as well as free seeds at the seed exchange table and the Erin Seed Library. There will be kids’ crafts, a gardening book exchange table, and an Ask Me table which will be staffed with local Garden Club members, ready to answer your gardening questions. Lug a mug for refreshments.
The speaker series includes:
11am – Erik of Backyard Seed Savers in Guelph will be speaking about small scale seed production. His small company offers a seed CSA which is the first of its kind.
Noon – Dr. Diane Corlett of Lochland Botanicals in Halton will be speaking about their journey to become an herb and flower farm as well as a space for people to reconnect with the land and themselves.
1pm – Sentimental Farm will have a talk called “Urban Homesteaders – not just hippies with cell phones.” They will discuss organic fruit and vegetable growing, food preservation, bread, soap and cheese making.
2pm – Hillsburgh’s June Switzer will be giving her talk on edible flowers.
