Born at home in Druminis, County Armagh, Northern Ireland on August 17, 1939. Called into Jesus’ arms at Strathcona Longterm Care in Mount Forest after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on December 29, 2019. Survived by Laura, his beloved wife of 49 years, devoted sons Robert (June) and John. Proud Grandpa to Logan and Nathan. Loving brother of George (Betty), Sandy, Eileen and Anne, all from County Armagh. Predeceased by infant sister Eileen, brother Robert (Mabel) and brother-in-law Roy Craig. Chosen brother to Jim McMurray (Lois) and loved dearly by their children. He will not be forgotten by his many nephews, nieces and cousins in Ireland and Canada. Jim was a quiet Irishman, who loved his family, working in his gardens and in the Terry Fox garden in Fergus. He loved building and working with wood, especially when he could share these talents with others. He was a perfectionist who believed that he should “measure twice and cut once.” He immigrated to Canada in 1967. Where he loved and appreciated his chosen country. For 32 years he was employed by the Upper Grand District School Board, for most of that time as Head Custodian of the Centre Wellington District High School. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research or St. James Anglican Church. Visitation was held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at St. James Anglican Church, 171 Queen St. E, Fergus from 10:00am to 12:00pm, followed by a funeral service beginning at 12:00pm. Arrangements are entrusted with the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home.
