It is with heavy hearts that the family of Muriel Joan Morris (nee Barnes) announces her passing peacefully in her sleep on Saturday October 19, 2019 at the Pioneer Elder Care facility in St. Catharines, Ontario in her 95th year. Muriel was born in Gloucester UK & grew up in Hillingdon UK. After living in & out of bomb shelters during WWII she completed her schooling & went to work as a secretary. Five years later she began working at Denim Studios in the Continuity Department where she met her future husband Reginald Herbert Morris (2004) a Cinematographer. They were married in 1948 & set up home in Ruislip UK where they had 2 daughters, Lesley Ann Morris & Melanie Jasmin Morris. In 1955 they immigrated to Canada & the young family set sail on the Rosa Star arriving in Hull, Quebec later that year. Dad secured a position with the National Film Board of Canada and Mum found employment with the Indian Embassy, both in Montreal area, where they settled. In 1960 they were happy to add son Anthony Wayne Barnes Morris to their family. The family moved to the Toronto area in 1963 where Muriel worked part time for the school board. Mum remained in the area until her move to St. Catherines in 2016. Muriel was passionate about dancing. She was active in both line and Hawaiian dancing. She could really shake those hips even at the age of 90 & at 93 she lead the Conga line at the Pioneer Christmas party. She made friends with many members of these groups & enjoyed going to plays, lunches, day trips and summer camp with them. Another passion was travelling which she did extensively with Dad, later with her daughter Lesley annually & occasionally her son Anthony & his partner Cheryl. Muriel loved her family dearly & was very proud of all their accomplishments. This included her husband & 3 children, her son-in-law Bill Munro, Anthony’s loving life partner Cheryl Dobinson, Grandson Ben Munro, wife Laura Petronzi & Great Grandsons Asher & Ethan Munro, Grandson Micah Munro, wife Lindsay Munro & Great Granddaughters Gabrielle & Olivia Munro. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Pioneer Elder Care (St. Catharines) for their diligent & loving care of Mum who received the best possible life for the last 3 years. As per Muriel’s wishes a private family farewell took place on Friday October 25, 2019 followed by cremation. She will then join Dad for eternity.
