Neighbourwoods offers fall tree talk and guided walk

ELORA – Neighbourwoods is offering a tree talk and tree walk this fall.

Tree talk

The Tree Talk: The Role of Fungi in Urban Forestry will take place on Oct. 17 from  7:30 to 9pm at the Elora Centre for the Arts.

The Tree Talk is free for members or $5 for non-members.

Speaker Kyle McLaughlin will present on understanding that the role trees play in the developing urban landscape is critical.

Fungi, however, are often overlooked, even by the professionals.

This talk will discuss the anatomy of mushrooms, the role of a risk assessor in urban forestry management, and the ways fungi can affect trees.

Guided walk

The Guided Walk: Fungi in the Forest will take place on Oct. 19 from 10 to 11:30am on the Aboyne Trail (968 Wellington Road 18, south side of road, just east of Wellington County Museum).

The walk costs $5 and attendees are asked to email  neighbourwoods@eloraenvironmentcentre.ca to pre-register.

McLoughlin will be leading the walk and attendees will learn to identify common fungi, the difference between a mushroom and a conk, and see how fungi interact with trees on a daily basis.

Ideas discussed in the Role of Fungi in Urban Forestry  talk will be expanded.
