Dear Editor:
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer will kill the federal carbon tax (and your rebate), eliminate new fuel standards, allow large polluters to emit more, and export more Canadian oil and gas – in other words, go backwards.
His plan will increase, not decrease emissions, something neither Canada nor the world can afford.
The Conservative environmental plan didn’t set any targets for greenhouse gas reductions, which is the whole point of the 2015 Paris Agreement. Independent analyses found their plan won’t meet Canada’s commitments.
Conservatives always say Canada is responsible for only 1.6 per cent of global GHG emissions. What they don’t tell you is that, per person, Canada’s 37 million people produce more carbon than any other G20 nation.
Millions participated in the climate strikes on Sept. 27. In Canada, all of the major party leaders attended with one exception: Andrew Scheer. He could not be bothered to show up, to listen to the voices of the multitude of young people who want a liveable world. Scheer amply demonstrated he does not care about your children’s future.
A majority of those kids can’t yet vote; they need us to vote for them to give them the future they deserve.
Gord Cumming,
