Woman dies of injuries
MAPLETON – A Mount Forest woman has died as a result of injuries sustained in a serious crash here earlier this month.
On Sept. 5 at about 3:30pm, emergency crews responded to a collision involving two vehicles and farm tractor hauling a manure trailer on Wellington Road 8 near Sideroad 12 in Mapleton.
Wellington County OPP officials say a northbound tractor slowed to make a left-hand turn onto Sideroad 12 when it was rear-ended by a northbound SUV.
The SUV was then rear-ended by a northbound sedan.
The driver of the SUV, Karen Keir, 66, of Mount Forest, was transported to a local hospital and then transferred to a trauma centre, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Charges in break-in
GUELPH-ERAMOSA – On Sept. 14 at about 2:55am Wellington County OPP officers responded to a break-in at a business on Sideroad 14 here.
Police say the business, which is contained within a large bush area and has controlled access, stores industrial wire spools and other metal items.
“Officers responded to the scene and immediately set up containment of the area,” states an OPP press release.
“Police searched a motor vehicle that was parked partially in the ditch close to the entrance of the business and located break and enter tools. Police seized a section of copper wire that was laying on the ground nearby as well as a duffel bag containing various copper fittings.”
Following a chase through the bush, the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) located and arrested two suspects.
Maxwell Gerald Kirkwood, 29, of Waterloo, and Joseph Yateman, 39, of Kitchener, were each charged with theft under $5,000, possession of break-in tools, and break and enter to commit an indictable offence.
Kirkwood was held for a bail hearing. Yateman was to appear in Guelph court on Oct. 18.
Break-in, theft
ERIN – On Sept. 15 at about 1pm Wellington County OPP officers responded to a residential break-in on Wellington Road 42 here.
Police say that sometime between Sept. 13 at 1pm and Sept. 15 at 12:40pm, someone forced open the rear door of the house and stole jewelry and cash, among other items.
