‘Ignorant’ ads

Dear Editor:

An open letter to Andrew Scheer.

I’m appalled by the advertisements I hear for your party on the radio. They insult my intelligence.

Telling me to vote for you because “Justin Trudeau can’t be trusted and isn’t as advertised” is rude and ignorant. There are more than two parties. I don’t want to vote against a person. I want to vote for good policy that will ensure every Canadian has the education, health care, social services and environmental controls to ensure a vibrant future. This is the government’s job.

I also feel deeply insulted by promises to make my life more affordable by reducing the federal tax on my home heating bill (very generous – this portion of my bill is $6 per month) and reinstating tax credits for putting my kid in sports (again generous! $100 per year).

Honestly these peanuts will not make a significant impact on the affordability of my life. But the revenue lost could be used to pay off our national debt and ensure services are available to all Canadians.

I don’t want tax cuts. I want a responsible government that does its job ensuring every Canadian has what they need to thrive. You can’t pay for good services or pay down debt by cutting revenue. Taxes are our revenue.

Mary Crome,
Arthur
