Province provides funds for bridge reconstruction in Wellington North

WELLINGTON NORTH – The Ontario government is providing over $4.1 million toward the rehabilitation of the Conestogo River bridge just east of Arthur on Wellington Road 109.

“Our government is working closely with our municipal partners to fund vital infrastructure projects in our rural communities,” said Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece in a Sept. 11 press release.

“We are committed to ensuring all Ontarians, no matter where they live, can travel to work, school and the grocery store safely.

“This investment will ensure our businesses can get their goods to domestic and international markets – in turn, growing the local economy and creating good jobs here in Wellington County.”

Wellington County Warden Kelly Linton stated, “On behalf of county council, our residents and businesses, I would like to thank the [province] for this infrastructure investment. Well-maintained bridges are critical for rural residents and our local economy.”

Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott stated, “We’re continuing to work with municipalities, families, and businesses, to make smart investments in our infrastructure, and keep it reliable. Our investments are creating jobs and growing the economy, shaping the future for hard-working families in Ontario.”

The total cost of the project is $5 million with the province providing $4,166,500, and Wellington County providing the remaining $833,500.

This is the second major funding announcement from the province this summer in Wellington. In July, the province committed $1 million, through the Connecting Links Program, for the reconstruction of Arthur Street East in Harriston.
