‘Disgusted’

Dear Editor:

I am a citizen of the Township of Centre Wellington and I am appalled and disgusted to see and watch all these people bring their household garbage and recycling (cardboard, etc.) to the parks and downtown garbages.

I have witnessed dozens of vehicles and people dumping bags of garbage and loose garbage and recycling into these receptacles over the past several months. As a citizen and taxpayer of our fine township I cannot believe that these people can’t afford a couple of dollars to go to the waste facilities we have available to us here in Centre Wellington.

One person in particular was driving a what looked like a brand new (probably) $40,000 vehicle and I asked them why they couldn’t use these facilities, and their comment was this is way more convenient. I then found out the park they were dumping their garbage at was at the other end of town from which they lived, which is very astonishing to me. If they can drive all the way across town to do this, surely they can drive to one of the waste facilities we offer.

I also see township staff struggle with trying to empty and clean up said garbage every week which is then in turn taken to the waste facilities we have in Belwood and Elora.

So I would just like to see a little more consideration and respect from the people who are responsible for doing this to maybe think twice about their actions before they continue to do this in the future.  Because we all know that birds and animals get into the garbages as well and create more of a mess for the parks themselves – and let us not forgot that a lot of these parks have playgrounds and sports fields where all of our children play and have fun.

So let’s try to keep our parks and the rest of our township litter free, thank you.
