EDEN MILLS – It was September of 2007, with new minority Prime Minister Stephen Harper in power, that Eden Mills launched its book sale.
In that same year, Eden Mills launched its Going Carbon Neutral project.
With thousands of books recycled, the last Eden Mills book sale will take place on Sept. 28, from 9am to 1pm.
There have been several collections donated that will make a selection of books available at a low price.
One collection, donated by Mt. Carmel Spiritual Centre in Niagara Falls, includes a wide selection of books on philosophy, spirituality, psychology and religion with titles from all faiths, including several volumes by Rumi, Thoreau, Emerson and on Bhagavad Gita.
The second collection comes from a local professional whose career included education, corporate training, personal development, addictions services and business coaching. His books donated include psychology, leadership training, psychotherapy, teaching, business, marketing and sales, and personal development.
It seems particularly appropriate that the community that gave birth to the nationally-recognized Eden Mills Writers’ Festival, now in its 31st year, was also responsible for starting the popular sale, which gives more people a greater opportunity to read more books.
There will also be sales of CDs, DVDs, vinyl records and some electronics, and tasty home baked goods.
All the funds raised go to the Eden Mills Community Club, which operates the 100-year-old hall. It has been newly retrofitted to be the most carbon neutral heritage building of its type in Canada. The special environmental work on the hall has been funded largely by the community.
