GUELPH – The Youth Performance Program in Guelph provides an opportunity for young people with a passion for performing.
Under the artistic direction of theatre professional and Guelph native Janet Kubik, students ages 7 to 15 will train in various aspects of performance and use what they learn through the rehearsal and performance of a live musical revue Bring on Broadway!
Kubik has worked with industry heavy hitters such as Mirvish productions and Drayton Entertainment. She has performed on some of Canada’s premiere stages with the likes of Mickey Rooney and has worked twice with Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman.
After returning home to Guelph to raise her family, Kubik began tapping into her passion for theatre by taking on the role of choreographer for various productions for Royal City Musical Productions Incorporated (RCMPI) and other local arts organizations.
This reignited her desire to give young people the opportunity to learn and grow by taking to the stage and has led to the creation of this program.
“Essentially, we will treat classes as rehearsals while we prepare to perform Bring on Broadway! which is a collection of songs from a variety of Broadway musicals.”
Rehearsals will be held Thursday evenings starting in September with the performance of Bring on Broadway! on Dec. 7 at The Guelph Little Theatre.
