GUELPH – A tender for the replacement of a culvert on Wellington/Perth Road 86 was awarded to Reeves Construction Limited of Mount Forest for $678,150.
The Reeves tender was the lowest of three submitted, with the highest coming in at just under $1.19 million
Work on the culvert, between Perth Road 121 and Mapleton Sideroad 15, includes removal of existing concrete structure, supply and placement of new reinforced pre-cast concrete rigid frame box culvert, concrete block retaining walls, roadway reconstruction and steel beam guide rail installation.
County council approved the roads committee recommendation to accept the tender on June 27.
Haul route allowed
Wellington County has authorized Wilson Quarry to use Wellington Road 16 (north) as a haul route during the half-load season.
The move is subject to an agreement on expenses and costs for road improvement being recovered from quarry owner Rodney Wilson.
County council approved the roads committee recommendation on June 27 to allow the usage. In May, council directed the county engineer to assess the the pavement condition on Wellington Road 16 – from the proposed Alfred Wilson quarry site, north to Highway 89 – and report on the feasibility of allowing a site specific exemption to the half-load restrictions.
The decision followed a delegation from quarry operators at the May 14 road committee meeting.
