Dear Editor:
One cannot help but feel that when Doug Ford said he is for the people, the people he meant are property developers.
First, he went after the Greenbelt and when that was widely criticized, he relented. Now his government is giving the power back to the OMB to override decisions made by municipalities around development.
Worse still, through Bill 108, the government can unilaterally remove protections for endangered species when developers pay to pave over lands where those species live. If this bill becomes law you can bet we will start seeing subdivisions named “Wood Turtle Homes” or streets named “Red-backed Salamander Crescent” after the reptiles rendered extinct to build those properties. I guess Doug Ford knows best, who needs our mammals, reptiles, forests, or greenspace?
One thing we can say about endangered species protections, you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.
