WELLINGTON NORTH – A local man has been charged by police following an alleged sexual assault.
On April 22 the Wellington County OPP received a report of an assault that occurred in Wellington North Township.
“It was reported that a child had been sexually assaulted by a known male,” police stated in a press release.
Morris Gordon Wilson, 65, of Wellington North, was arrested and charged with sexual interference and sexual assault on a person under 16. He was held for bail.

Gun, drug charges
GUELPH-ERAMOSA – A local man is facing numerous weapon and drug charges after a recent police bust here.
On April 17, 2019, police executed a search warrant at a residence on 5th Line near Rockwood.
OPP officials say officers seized a number of firearms and prohibited firearm accessories, currency, ammunition, drugs and drug production equipment.
The total value of the seized drugs and currency is estimated at $300,000.
Richard Gordon Nichol Good, 58, of Guelph-Eramosa, is charged with:
– possession of a prohibited device or ammunition (two counts);
– improper storage of firearms (two counts);
– unauthorized importing of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon, prohibited device or ammunition;
– unauthorized importing of components or parts for use in making of automatic firearms;
– knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon;
– possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000;
– possess, produce, sell, distribute or import anything with intention to use it to produce, sell or distribute illicit cannabis;
– cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants; and
– alter or offer to alter the chemical or physical properties of cannabis by the use of an organic solvent.
Vehicle thefts
SOUTHGATE – On April 25, two men police say were involved in vehicle thefts were arrested and charged as a result of a combined police effort.
On April 24 at about 11:49pm, Grey County OPP responded to a report of a Dodge pickup truck that had just been stolen from a residence in the Township of Southgate.
While patrolling the area, police came upon an abandoned Chevrolet pickup truck in a ditch that was stolen from South Bruce (Kincardine).
Wellington County OPP officers eventually observed the stolen Dodge and several police services attempted to stop the vehicle.
“In an effort to evade police, the vehicle drove into a farmer’s field in the area of Highway 9 and Concession 12 in the Municipality of South Bruce,” police stated in a press release.
“After the vehicle became stuck, the driver fled on foot. The passenger was arrested at the scene. Shortly after, the second male suspect was arrested nearby, with the assistance of the OPP Canine (unit).”
The passenger, an 18-year-old male from Wellington North, was charged with:
– possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (two counts);
– possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; and
– failing to comply with a sentence under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (three counts). He is to appear in Walkerton court on May 22.
The driver of the stolen vehicle, Shane Matthew Decunha, 27, of Hanover, was charged with:
– vehicle theft over $5,000;
– dangerous driving;
– flight from a peace officer;
– possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (two counts);
– failing to comply with a probation order (two counts).
He was held in custody pending a video remand.
Police services who took part in the case were Grey County OPP, South Bruce OPP, Wellington County OPP, the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Unit, as well as Hanover Police Service and West Grey Police Service.

Meth, weapon charges
MOUNT FOREST – A local man faces drug and weapon charges following a drug bust here last week.
On April 25, Wellington County OPP officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Normanby Street South in Mount Forest.
Police say officers seized methamphetamine, drug trafficking equipment, currency (under $1,000) and a prohibited striking weapon.
Paul William Smyth, 42, of Mount Forest, was charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, unauthorized possession of a weapon and failing to comply with a probation order. He was held for bail.
Drug, insurance charges
ROCKWOOD – A Burlington man faces a drug trafficking charge after being pulled over by police here last week.
On April 24 Wellington County OPP stopped a white passenger vehicle for an alleged driving infraction on Main Street in Rockwood.
“The driver failed to produce proof of insurance and was also found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine, cocaine trafficking equipment and currency,” police stated in a press release.
Michael Christopher Swaby, 41, of Burlington, was charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and driving without insurance. He was held for bail.
