Dear Editor:
An open letter to Premier Doug Ford, MPPs, members of the CVC board and Erin representatives.
I have to apologize to you all. The Advertiser has now reported that it is the Town of Erin that is holding up the Hillsburgh Station Street Dam project and not the Credit Valley Conservation authority (CVC objects to criticism on Hillsburgh dam project, April 25).
The Erin councillors quoted in the Advertiser several weeks ago apparently don’t know what is going on at their own town hall. The CVC says the Town of Erin had not submitted its application for a permit.
Why doesn’t the town CAO keep the council informed? Why don’t they ask before they spout off?
In my previous letter (Government ‘fighting,’ April 18) I asked the premier to get rid extra layers of government, but I did not specify which ones. The taxpayers of the Town of Erin are over represented.
The City of Toronto just saw a change from one councillor per 100,000 people to one councillor per 160,000 people.
In Erin we have just 12,000 people in total and we have five councillors. That is one councillor per 2,400 people. And we have the County of Wellington level of government too, in which Erin has two representatives (one per 6,000).
I say we should get rid of the town level of government. Think of all the taxes we would save by getting rid of seven town halls in Wellington County.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that the county would keep better track of the projects under their purview.
Jane Vandervliet,
Erin
