Area students visit Iceland

Icelandic adventure – Twenty four Centre Wellington District High School students recently travelled to Reykjavík, Iceland for a week. They were accompanied by trip coordinator Diane Ballantyne and co-supervisors Jim Mason and Dr. Tina Williams. The students saw the south coast and Golden Circle, numerous waterfalls, the Black Sand Beach, the Great Geysir (only four in the world exist), the Lava Center and the city of Reykjavík. RIGHT: The  students checked out the “Solfar” or “Sun Voyager” steel sculpture on Reykjavik’s waterfront that resembles a Viking long-ship and was created by Icelandic sculptor Jon Gunnar Arnason. LEFT: Students also visited the Thor statue in front of Hallgrimskirkja (the landmark church in downtown Reykjavík).  Submitted photos
