CLIFFORD – Clifford and District Horticultural society president Vic Palmer and his granddaughter Jazzy headed out with volunteers on Saturday morning at 10am on April 6 from the Rotary Pavillion park to collect litter left in the parks and streets in Clifford.
Spring uncovers so much trash scattered by the winds of winter. Participants found the usual bottles, cans, cigarette packs, drinking cups, for sale signs, and a bright red bow that must have blown along the street in the wind storm. The volunteers were commended for their efforts inspiring others to get a head start on their own lawn beautification projects.
Helpers were treated to barbecued hot dogs, chocolate cup cakes, treats and drinks. Merle Freeman and Frank Dickinson cooked the hot dogs while Karen Dowler, Elaine Young, and Ivy Leith set out the goodies.
This event is organized each year hoping for an hour or two of assistance from the residents of the community. Although the number of helpers seems to be dwindling, those who manage to help are faithfully committed to keeping Clifford litter free, organizers note.
The clean-up event was co-sponsored by the Town of Minto and the Clifford and District Horticultural Society.
