FERGUS – Habitat for Humanity ReStores in Fergus, Guelph and Orangeville now have donation bins.
Habitat for Humanity Wellington Dufferin Guelph officials say there was public demand for the bins, to allow for “one-stop-shop” donating.
Director of retail operations Tanja Zoric explored available options that would allow ReStores to accept a greater array of donations.
Habitat ReStores accept donations of new and gently used items that are sold to raise money for projects.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that mobilizes volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership, as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.
“Nobody wants to turn away donations, especially when we are turning those donations into affordable housing,” said Zoric. “People come to our ReStores with the intention of supporting the community and helping to reduce waste – so it’s our job to make that as easy as possible for them.”
The Fergus ReStore at 927 Tower St., unit 900, has a bin inside the rear donation drop off door. The Guelph (300-104 Dawson Rd.) and Orangeville (1-202 First St.) bins are in front of the stores.
The blue metal bins mean visitors can not only donate furniture, lighting, plumbing and other ReStore staples, they can also contribute items such as clothing, shoes, bedding, toys, books, jewelry, purses, kitchenware and drapery.
“Customers are happy that they can do one-stop donations,” said Deb Stanson, Fergus ReStore Manager.
