AfterWhys – A play about seniors’ mental health and suicide with a message of hope and resiliency

FERGUS – AfterWhys is a 40-minute stage play about the importance of hope and resilience for seniors who face mental health challenges, including suicide.

This live performance also depicts, with humour and compassion, how to better support those in the community who may need help.

The play is followed by a facilitated discussion by Paula Frappier.

Through her years of working with seniors, she will share her vast knowledge about the risks and myths that surround seniors’ and suicide.

The play will be performed at the Wellington County Museum and Archives, Nicholas Keith Room on April 16 from 7 to 8:30pm.

Canadians age 60 and over are one of the most at-risk groups for suicide.

Starts a conversation

“AfterWhys starts the conversation about this often-taboo subject, and opens our minds to how we can each help family and friends who may be struggling and even at risk of suicide,” said Heather Glenister, Suicide Awareness Council of Wellington Dufferin coordinator.

“This play is very powerful because it was woven together by people in our community who shared their stories of courage, love, hurt and strength.”

There is no cost to attend the show.

Registration can be completed through Eventbrite at AfterWhys2019.eventbrite.ca or by email to suicidecouncilwd@cmhaww.ca or by calling 519-239-8902.

This performance is offered in partnership with the Suicide Awareness Council of Wellington Dufferin, Gambling Research Exchange Ontario and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health.
