WELLINGTON COUNTY – Municipalities in Wellington County, including the county itself, will benefit from one-time funding to help them improve local service delivery.
Wellington municipalities will receive a combined total of just over $4.9 million from a $200 million fund to help small and rural municipalities modernize service delivery.
A total of 405 municipalities across the province will receive funding, the government announced March 21.
“Our government was elected with the mandate to restore fiscal responsibility,” said Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece.
“We believe that municipalities are in the best position to both understand their unique local circumstances and determine where and how money is spent.”
Funds will be used to improve service delivery “by finding smarter, more efficient ways to spend money,” states a press release from Pettapiece’s office.
These include such measures as service delivery reviews, development of shared services agreements, IT solutions, capital investments and other projects, the release states.
“Taxpayers need their local government to deliver modern, efficient services that show respect for their hard-earned dollars,” said Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark.
“This funding will help small and rural municipalities improve how they deliver services and reduce the ongoing costs of providing those services.”
Funds
Wellington County will receive $725,000 through the program.
Centre Wellington will receive $618,175, Wellington North $618,175, Guelph-Eramosa $613,775, Erin $602,673, Minto $591,214, Mapleton $581,800 and Puslinch $569,599.
