National Tartan Day concert

FERGUS – In celebration of Canada’s National Tartan Day, April 6, a special evening of Scottish music and song will take place in Fergus at Melville United Church by local promoter WeeAlec Productions.

Originating in Canada in the 1980’s, to recognize Scottish heritage, Tartan Day is now celebrated in countries around the world.

The date of April 6 was chosen to coincide with the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320, declaring Scottish independence.

This year’s musical lineup features some of the finest international and local musicians including Scottish singer Alyth McCormack, Tony McManus, Julia Toaspern, trad trio NUA and Mike Baker on bagpipes, organizers state.

The show will begin at 7:30pm.

All ages are welcome and  tartan is encouraged.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for youth.

To purchase tickets visit the Fergus Scottish Corner Shop or go to the theatre website, www.fergusgrandtheatre.ca.
