1928-2019 With sadness, we announce that Rosemary Tait passed away in Fergus, Ontario on March 21. She was predeceased by parents May and Lloyd Johnstone, and brother Douglas (Janet), and is survived by husband John and brother Ivor (Janet). She will be missed with loving memories by niece Andrea Johnstone (John Shelley) and nephew(s) Brad, Rick, Frank (Michele), along with her ‘children’ Elicia Vine (Jason) and Jesse (Carrie), and three generations of great nieces and nephews. Rosemary was born and lived for many years in Windsor, Ontario, where her love of teaching inspired her students at the High School of Commerce and Herman Secondary School. She continued teaching into retirement at workshops given by the OSSTF. During the 1970s and ‘80s Rosemary administered the University of Windsor’s Oxford Program in England, under the direction of her mentor, the late John Sullivan. The Sullivans adopted her as an honorary family member and they remained very close friends throughout her life. An accomplished actress and active Board member of the Owen Sound Little Theatre (OSLT), she, along with Vince Mathewson, was instrumental in ensuring the survival of the Roxy Theatre under the auspices of the OSLT. She also served for several years as a Board member for the Western Ontario Drama league. Rosemary was a bright and outgoing woman who embraced life with passion. She loved the theatre and the Arts, and was often found at the centre of a social gathering, engaging in lively intellectual debate, sharing stories and laughter, or leading the singing. She was a tenacious advocate for people and causes she believed in, and a strong and influential role model for the younger people in her life. There will be a private celebration of her life at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Groves Memorial Hospital or the Elora Arts Council.
