SIU investigating ‘interaction with police’
MAPLETON – The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating an “interaction” between police and a driver involved in a vehicle collision here.
On Feb. 25 at about 11:20pm a Wellington County OPP officer observed a southbound vehicle turning onto Sideroad 15 from Wellington Road 86, southwest of Conestogo Lake.
“Shortly thereafter, a passing motorist reported a motor vehicle collision involving the same motor vehicle approximately five kilometres away,” police stated in a press release.
The empty vehicle was located at the scene and the driver, subsequently found “in the area,” was arrested by police and taken to hospital by ambulance.
Police say that “as a result of interaction with police,” Wellington County OPP officials notified the SIU, which is investigating.
The Advertiser has requested more information from the SIU about the nature of the “interaction” between police and the driver.
