GUELPH – The third annual festival of eclectic banjo music runs March 8-10.
There will be four shows at Silence, 46 Essex Street.
Banjofest has expanded this year to include acts from Nashville, Alberta and Montreal.
The styles of banjo music range from bluegrass and old-time through to African Kora, western swing, banjo-backed singer-songwriters and jugband Canadiana.
The Sunday afternoon session March 10 features sets by Tom Power (host of CBC Radio’s “q”) and John Showman, as well as locals Lewis Melville and Tannis Slimmon.
The Friday evening Claire Lynch Band concert is sold out. Claire is a three time Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and winner of seven International Bluegrass Music Association Awards.
Also sold out are: the Saturday afternoon set by the duo “Cowbilly” from Alberta, and the Saturday night set with The Lonesome Ace Stringband, who will be featuring the music of John Hartford.
