Dear Editor:
Elora needs a grocery store, and a co-op would be the perfect fit for our community.
A co-op is a business that is run by its members, so a co-op grocery store would be a store that is run by the community, for the benefit of the community.
It would offer us a chance to participate in direct democracy, and to pool our skills, knowledge, and resources for the benefit of our fellow community members.
Along with providing all the necessary staple grocery items, it could support local farms and food producers, and potentially be run as a zero-waste grocery store.
We should seize this opportunity to build a better, more accessible local food system, and hopefully our elected officials will help make the co-op grocery store a reality.
