Junior curling coach honoured

ELORA – Elora Curling Club junior and bantam coach Scott Lindhorst was presented with an Ontario Curling Association (OCA) extraordinary volunteer award on Jan. 11. The nomination recognized Lindhorst’s dedication to the ongoing development and success of the program.

Laura MacEachern, who coaches with Lindhorst and submitted the nomination, said he inspires the junior and bantam program every week.

“He is so dedicated to the sport and to the kids here at our club,” she said.

The Elora Curling Club hosts a busy junior and bantam program with curlers from ages eight to 18 on Friday evenings

“Scott is whole-heartedly dedicated to the junior program at the Elora Curling Club,” said MacEachern.

“He is welcoming to each and every new junior, making sure that they feel welcome and comfortable.

“He is strategic in his planning of each week’s ‘lesson plan,’ carefully balancing strategy, techniques, fun and insight.

“He arrives at the club early, staying late to ensure that each member of the junior program have what they need.

“Scott has also been paramount to the school curling programs in the area. He has dedicated a lot of time to ensuring that local schools have a welcoming and educational facility for their students to play the game.

“The number of junior and bantam curlers is higher than it has been in a lot of years.”
