Gallery Concert Series to begin Jan. 20 at museum

ABOYNE – On Jan. 20 the new concert season opens at the Wellington County Museum with the Gallery Music Group presenting  flute, piano and horn renditions, which flow from the era of French Impressionism.

Andre Caplet, who orchestrated numbers of works by his close friend Debussy, was a composer in his own right. He died at the early age of 46 from the long-term effects of gas while serving in the First World War.

Henri Busser, who also orchestrated for Debussy, was a protégé of Jules Massenet.

Best known for his opera Daphnis and Chloe, he wrote many compositions in the sophisticated 19th century French tradition.

Performers for Jan. 20’s concert are Brad Moggach on piano, Greg Stroh on flute and Judith Douglas on french horn. In various combinations they will also play music by Bach, Hindemith and Mozart.

The affordable and easily accessible music offerings in the Gallery Concert Series take place in the exhibition hall, with a complementary reception after the concert to meet the performers.

Tickets are available at the door and include entry to all exhibits at the museum.

Of note will be A Peek Behind The Curtain, the lively exhibit of Puppets Elora, which opens the previous day.
