Community Foundation donates $800 to food bank

FERGUS – The Centre Wellington Community Foundation (CWCF) board of directors donated $800 to the Centre Wellington Food Bank during the 2018 Christmas Food Drive.

Dedicated to easing hunger in this community, the food bank provides food and other resources in a compassionate and supportive environment.

During the holiday season, the food bank also has several Christmas programs.

Jason Thompson, a CWCF board member, added, “The CW Food Bank is so much more than a place to get food items; the facilities and programing are amazing.

“We are happy to support their efforts and encourage them to use this donation for whatever needs they see fit.”

Harvey Thomson, organizer of the FoodCycleRide fundraiser during the summer and new CWCF board member, adds, “The food bank needs our community’s support throughout the year, but it may be particularly relevant during this season of giving.”

There are several ways local community members  can support the food bank: donation of food items throughout the year which can be dropped off at the collection boxes at Zehrs and FreshCo; direct financial contributions to support special purchases or program needs; volunteering  to sort food, prepare food in the state of the art community kitchen, assist clients, pick up donations, helping at food drives, and/or assisting with various operational tasks.

The food bank also provides a “most needed items” list to assist donors in their food choices.
