Dear Editor:
Silence can speak volumes.
I recently received a 2019 calendar from our MP Michael Chong. Unfortunate, because many of us won’t find it useful, but more so because of the missed opportunity.
Opportunity to inform constituents about federal initiatives which affect their lives. Like federal funding of the St. Andrew Street improvements and the new St. David St. bridge in Fergus.
Or how to apply for the enhanced Canada Child Benefit using Form RC66 or for a newborn – especially helpful for families with lower incomes. And to help address the affordable housing challenges in Centre Wellington, the first ever National Housing Strategy, targeted to help women and children fleeing family violence, seniors, people with disabilities, young adults and others. And just as urgently, the missed opportunity to inform employers in our riding of the 2019 Canada Summer Jobs Program application timeline, which ends on Jan. 25.
Why would Mr. Chong, who is paid by us, spend our money on calendars rather than share important information about programs which are in place to benefit his constituents? The silence speaks volumes.
