Township hires consultant for Fire Master Plan

BRUCEDALE – Guelph-Eramosa has hired Emergency Management and Training Inc. to complete a Fire Master Plan for the township.

Fire services for the township are currently provided by the municipal volunteer department in Rockwood with services from Centre Wellington, Guelph and Woolwich.

The City of Guelph is planning to renegotiate its existing service agreement and fees are expected to increase.

“One of the municipality’s highest priorities for this exercise is to determine how fire services should be supplied and establish an appropriate plan for providing and funding the preferred service delivery model,” CAO Ian Roger wrote in a report to council on Dec. 17.

Three consultants submitted proposals but only two made bids.

Emergency Management and Training Inc. was the lowest, with a bid of $36,342, with Dillon Consulting Ltd. coming in at $67,480.

Emergency Management and Training Inc. included consultation sessions with council and the public that Dillon Consulting Ltd. had offered as additional items at an extra cost.

In the absence of council meetings during the fall  election, Roger hired Emergency Management and Training Inc.

The township budgeted $60,000 in the capital budget for the plan.

The total cost for Emergency Management and Training Inc., net of the GST rebate, is $50,737.
