The Centre Wellington Fusion Major Peewee A team came home on Dec. 2 with gold medals from the Sudbury Regional Silver Stick qualifiers.
The team went undefeated through the first two days, capturing first place in its division. A 5-2 win against the Copper Cliff Redmen in the semi-finals secured the Fusion’s spot in the championship game.
Facing off against the Nickel City Sharks, the Fusion started off down one goal in the first period, but battled back to tie the game. Nickel City scored two more goals, and so with only five minutes left in the 3rd, the Fusion trailed by two. But the Fusion scored two more goals, tying the game with only 1.5 seconds on the clock.
The game remained tied into a second round of sudden death overtime, and with only 16 seconds left on the clock, the Fusion scored to win the game. The team now advances to the International Silver Stick in Port Huron, Michigan.
