Fergus Tennis Club wraps up 2018

FERGUS – As the fall leaves gathered in the corners of the courts and the first snowflakes started to fly, members of the Fergus Tennis Club reluctantly began to accept that the end of the outdoor tennis season is here.

The little club at the corner of Tower and Union has made big strides this year making tennis fun and accessible for more  members of the community, regardless of age or skill level.

Highlights include a free Learn to Play Program for children; adult six week Learn to Play Program; new singles leagues for men and ladies; summer camp for kids; beginner, intermediate and advanced house leagues, men and ladies house leagues and tournaments throughout the season.

The facilities at the club were also expanded to include a mini-court, practice wall, pickle ball court and basketball net.

A new Fergus Tennis Club website complete, with calendars, makes it easier for the community to connect with the club.

The 2018 season wrapped up with a chilly but fun filled year-end party that included the men’s doubles championship match along with members trying pickle ball and ping-pong.

The highlight of the party was an exciting demonstration of skill as members watched the men’s singles champion, Dave McGill take on club pro Dave Rowat.

From now until Christmas, receive a free Fergus Tennis Club hat with the purchase of a six-week Learn to Play Program for $50. The program is run by Rowat and no membership is required.  For those who already know how to play, gift certificates for 2019. Memberships are also available.

Tennis is a lifelong sport that brings families, fitness and friendships together.

“Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first time player, the Fergus Tennis Club has something for you,” officials say.
