Dear Editor:
An open letter to the chief administrative officer, clerk, mayor and councillors of the Township of Guelph-Eramosa.
I am very concerned for our young people with the legalization of smoking marijuana.
I worked at Imperial Tobacco for 36 years, and I saw how our government kept taxing cigarettes because of lung cancer. Where is the concern of our government now by legalizing marijuana, a drug that harms brain cells, along with a number of other serious issues they already know of?
In my opinion, Imperial Tobacco left Canada because of these high taxes. Now, the government is in need of more money. They saw an opportunity to exploit our youth by allowing them to buy and grow weed in their homes.
Shame on Justin Trudeau and his cabinet. It sickens me being a senior watching our country fall apart because of greed. Organized crime will flourish because the welcome mat is at the front door to grab our children that do not fully understand the consequences.
More studies need to be conducted on this major turn of events.
For over 20 years, I have waited for highway construction between Guelph and Kitchener, which has had study after study to save salamanders and is still ongoing. Are our youth not as important?
With the rush of legalizing recreational marijuana in our whole country, I believe our government tossed us under the bus.
It is a very disturbing issue to me. I realize this is a huge decision before you.
Please opt out before Jan. 22.
