GIBSON, Elsie M. With great sadness we announce the passing of Elsie Gibson, surrounded by her family, at the Louise Marshall Hospital, Mount Forest on Sunday, April 15th, 2018. Beloved wife of Rea Gibson, loving mother of David (Joanne) of Guelph and cherished grandmother of their children Michael (Katie), Christine and Robert. Loving mother of the late Ian (February 15, 2018) and his wife Diana and cherished grandmother of Daniel, Nicholas (Jessica), and Genna all of Richmond Hill, Ontario. Elsie was born in Belwood, Ontario to William Arthur Townsend (1952) and Alida Mary Bayne (1963). Predeceased by her brother William Clendon (1966) and Ivan Harrison (2002). Survived by her sister Betty Taylor of Pickering, Ontario. Her sisters-in-law Mildred Grivich (John) of Mount Hope, Ontario, Norma Judges of Collingwood, Ontario and brother-in-law Robert W. Gibson (Joy) of Corbeyville, Ontario. Survived by many wonderful and dear friends, who, through their kindness have made the recent struggles more comfortable. Elsie had a very special relationship with her niece Janet. The family would like to thank Dr. Daphne Rappard for her unending support and professional guidance. Elsie had a long career in the real estate business in the Guelph area and was the first female president of a Chamber of Commerce in Canada when elected to represent Guelph in 1978. She was on the Homewood Board of Directors for over 15 years and was active in the creation of the Elridge retirement communities. More recently, she was a founding member of the Cancer Patient Services Corporation of Mount Forest. Elsie’s happiest days were quiet days spent with family and friends. Her unending faith has sustained her throughout her life. Friends may call at the England Funeral Home, Mount Forest on Friday, April 20th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Elsie’s life will be held at the Mount Forest United Church, 175 Queen Street East, Mount Forest on Saturday, April 21st at 11 a.m., with visitation at the church prior to the service from 10 – 10:45 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to Cancer Patient Services Corporation of Mount Forest would be appreciated by the family.
