HOFER, Frieda “Oma” – 84. Surrounded by the family who adored her so, we are so very sad to announce that Oma passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 27th after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Paasdorf, Austria, Oma was a long-time resident of Erin. Often seen cruising Main Street on her red scooter, Oma was always with her much loved and constant companion, Scottie (who now resides with Michele and family). Oma loved visiting her friends, chatting with her sisters and her beloved niece Helga “back home”, eating apple slices from Holtom’s Bakery and working independently around her home and garden. Oma is survived and will be so very missed by daughter Michele and husband Ken Keeler, and the two granddaughters she was so very, very proud of – Carly and Stephanie. She is also survived by sisters Justine Wendy; Helga Kindl (husband Hermann “Schnabberl” died 14.02.2006) and her children Hermann, Manfred and Helga; Agnes Bilek, husband Josef and son Harald; Rosie Koeberler, husband Hans and her son Kurt as well as her cousin Friedrich “Fritz” Wendy. Oma called her family every day for years at 7 am sharp, to let them know she was “okay”. True to making her own decisions, Oma passed away at exactly 7 am, we know to let us all know she is okay. We will miss that 7 am call so very much. Friends were invited to Butcher Family Funeral Home, 5399 Main Street, South, Erin on Tuesday May 2, 2017 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Oma will be laid to rest in Paasdorf, Austria with her family this summer. Donations in Oma’s memory can be made to Bethell Hospice Foundation or The Upper Credit Humane Society.
