ARMSTRONG, Samuel “Sam”

ARMSTRONG, Samuel “Sam”, of Highland Manor, Fergus and formerly of Kitchener and Cambridge, passed away peacefully at Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus on Monday November 28, 2016 in his 91st year. Husband of the late Joy (Schieck) Armstrong (1998).Father of Cathy and her husband Dr. Roger Thomson of Kincardine and Fergus, Robert “Bob”Armstrong and his wife Sherri Moyer of Fergus, Sharon Ziegler of Kitchener and the late George Ziegler (1995). Grandfather and Great Grandfather of Jessie Thomson and her husband Matt Glaude and Rose of Ottawa; Michael Thomson and his wife Annie Denko and Henry of Guelph; Peter Armstrong and his wife Trina Maus and triplets Taylor, Ashton and John-Peter Samuel “J.P.” of Barrie; Jerime Ziegler and his wife Jen Jones and April, Zack, Keegan, Whyatt Ziegler and Logan Fry of Denfield; Sara Dalglish and twins Joshua and Bryce Ziegler, Eddie Dalglish and Oliver Dalglish of Kitchener. Sam will be missed by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Blanche Armstrong,  Jean Armstrong, Bruce and Nancy Schieck, Clare Schieck, Mary Thompson and Vic Roberts and Tom and Yvonne Schieck, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Sam was born in Ireland and served his country in the Canadian Army under No 6 District Depot, C.A. at Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was a butcher by trade owning a butcher shop for several years. Sam retired from a Liquor Inspector position for the Province of Ontario in the Kitchener /Cambridge area. After his retirement he had a passion for horseracing and achieved his Standardbred Horse Trainers and Drivers license. He took great pleasure in training and racing his own horses. Predeceased by his parents John and Catherine (Bradshaw) Armstrong, sisters Annie Mitton and Lulu Armstrong, brothers Bill, Joe and John Armstrong, sisters-in-law Myrna Cherry and Margaret Schieck and brothers-in-law Lee Mitton and Harold Udy. To Honour Sam’s wishes Cremation has taken place. Private Family Graveside Service followed by entombment with his late wife Joy in Mountview Cemetery, Cambridge.
