NICOLL, Douglas Victor of Burlington. Passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital in Hamilton on September 29th 2015 of brain cancer in his 57th year. Predeceased in 1997 by his eldest brother Philip; survived by Marie, widow of Philip, and their daughters, Jennifer and Mara. Douglas leaves his wife Lydia, and their sons James and Matthew. Doug is survived by his parents, Ken and Connie Nicoll of Elora, his younger brother James and his wife, Khanh Linh, of Oakville; and his older brother David, also of Oakville, best pals since childhood and steadfast care-giver during his illness: and David’s daughter, Sarah. When the Nicoll family moved from Weston to Woodbridge in 1966 where the boys attended school, Doug and David became enthusiastic and capable hockey players, a game Doug played as a team member until well into his fifties, when he was diagnosed with lymphoma and given one year to live. Surviving relatives include Aunts Grace Nicoll of London, England; Phyllis Phillips of Aberystwyth in Wales; Mabel (Phillips) Oram of Weston, and Helen (Phillips) Barrett of Hillsburg. First cousins include David, Paul and Timothy Phillips and Pamela (Phillips) Kalwa (Otto); Jean (Phillips) Franz (Jim) of Mississauga, Anne and Leslie Oram, and Peter (Tamzin), Bruce (Mary), Michael, Ian (Yazmin) and Gillian Barrett; and Alan and Douglas Phillips in England. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Joseph Brant Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society. A gathering of friends and relatives will take place at a later date.
