Arnold, Harold Seward

Arnold, Harold Seward; August 30, 1932 – May 12, 2014. Harold Arnold, a resident of Providence Bay, died at his residence on Monday. He was born in Sandfield, son of the late Leonard and Catherine (Thomas) Arnold and step son of the late Mae Arnold. Harold had worked at INCO for a number of years, `had been the Herdsman at the University of Guelph, then worked at the Elora Hardware, and in 1982, he and Marg came back to the Island where they farmed until his semi retirement. Harold had a variety of interests which included sports, hockey, baseball and especially curling. Whether watching or participating, he loved the game of curling and was very active in the Curling Club in Providence Bay. He was a member of the Providence Bay Agricultural Society and Gore Bay Masonic Lodge. Harold was an extremely social person, enjoying visiting with people and helping in the community. A true gentleman, Harold will be greatly missed by his family, his community and by the numerous friends he and Marg knew. Harold is survived by his beloved wife Margaret (McDougall) Arnold. Loving and loved father of Cathy (Marvin Simpson) Cleary of Belmont, Connie (Tom) Morphet of Espanola and Carol (Allan) McNeice of Thunder Bay. Proud grandfather of Jeffrey (Jennifer) Theriault, Chad (Sam) Theriault, Katelyn Morphet, Candace (Jacob) Morphet, Karen Morphet, Brittany McNeice, Keven McNeice, step grandchildren Shane and Blair Simpson and great grandchildren Abbigail, Parker, Hunter and step great grandchildren Cody and Emma. Dear brother of Gerald (Bobbi predeceased) Arnold of Mississippi, Edward (Ted) (Marie) Arnold of Scarborough and Lenora (Garfield) Dunlop of Sudbury. Also survived by Marg’s family and many nieces and nephews. Harold will be sadly missed by one of his best friends, Sport.Friends and relatives called at the Providence Bay Centennial Hall on Tuesday, May 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Harold’s life was conducted at the Centennial Hall on Wednesday, May 21 at 11 a.m. Interment in Providence Bay Cemetery. If so desired, donations (by cheque only) to the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary, the Kidney Foundation or Northern Cancer Care would be appreciated.
