Black, Amy Louise (Lou); July 29, 1931 – September 24, 2013. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Amy Louise Black [nee Menzies], after a brief and immensely heroic battle with Cancer. Amy died peacefully at home, as the sun set over Sparrow Lake, with several members of her family at home with her. Amy had a wonderful life and she has now joined her beloved late husband John Henderson. The full and grand life of Amy Louise humbly began in the small Scottish town of Fergus, Ontario. With her older brothers Albert and Reed, her mother Annie Lulu and her proud father Leslie Proctor, Amy Louise grew up in the height of the great depression in a house where love and guidance prosperously abounded. Amy was truly the apple of her father’s eye and it was perhaps his playfully devilish influence that helped Amy become a grand life-long adventure seeker and entrepreneur. Throughout her wonderful life Amy developed strong values and a grand way of treating people. Amy was a loving mother to Robbie (Florie), Stuart (Sarah) and Anne (Don). She was also the hippest grandmother anyone could have, and those grandchildren who love her dearly are Samantha, John, Aaron, Melodee, Scott, Arley Ame, Dalton and Ella. Louise is also a great-grandmother to Jules, Jacquelyne and Mason! Her career began by selling magazines door to door in the height of the depression. Upon graduation she taught school for several years and continued on to a successful real estate career. Amy married the love of her life Jack in the summer of ‘53. Sadly Jack passed away in 1985. In 1991, Amy officially retired and soon thereafter married Robert Gage Campbell. Both enjoyed being active members of the Washago Seniors Group. Together they enjoyed many sunsets, social events, boat-rides and card games with friends at home on Sparrow Lake, all the while snowbirding to Florida – until his passing in 2001. Her relatives and friends would agree that Lou loved life and no one more than her appreciated a fine meal and a good card game. Merrilyn, Melanie Jane and Heather were not just her beloved nieces but were also dear friends and confidants. Lou will be missed by her lifelong friend Peg Westerman. Louise will be laid to rest along side her husband Jack in Fergus, Ontario. A celebration of Louise Black’s life will be held at Bayview Wildwood Resort on Sparrow Lake, Sunday October 6 at 1pm – 4pm. All who knew and loved Amy Louise are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Canadian Cancer Society or Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.
