“Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced with skies on laughter-silvered wings; sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds – and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence.”
Derek passed away tragically doing what he loved most in the world, flying his glider TT. Derek was the soul mate to Theresa Thomson, the righteous dude father to Brian, dedicated son of Lori and Dan, brother to David (Carla), Dean (Angie) and Deb (Chris). Fun and fabulous uncle to Danielle, Ben, Lara, Caitlyn, Claire, Cooper, Cole, Brandon, Brittany, Conor, Nicky, Evan, Taylor, Brett, Lynley and Nolan. Wonderful son-in-law to Geraldine and Bill Thomson. Awesome brother-in-law to Heather, Anne (Del) and Jim (Deb). As well as an outstanding friend of too many to list. Derek was well-known as a mechanical engineer and manager of excellence as a vice-president of Dan Mackie Associates and INNOVAT Limited of Burlington Ontario. His employees and colleagues will miss him dearly.
