DeVore, Robert James “Jim”; of Newton, KS, formerly of Lower Drew, Ontario, passed away at his home on January 4, 2012. Jim was born in Lower Drew on June 28, 1931, the son of Olive (Holtom) and James “Shine” DeVore. The family resided in Michigan before moving to Kansas in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army Armor Division for two years during the Korean Conflict, seeing action at Pork Chop Hill, Sandbag Castle and Jane Russell Hill. In 1955 he married Mary Alice Dodds in Ottawa, Kansas, and in 1957 they came to live in Ontario. In 2000 he returned to Kansas where he lived with his partner Nita Bishop. Jim is survived by his wife Mary of Clifford; his children, Jay of Milton, Jeff and Charles of Drayton, Susan (DeVore) Watts of Kitchener, Robert of Mount Forest, 12 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild. He is also survived by one brother, Bill of Princeton, Kansas, one sister Jane (DeVore) Gibson of Lower Drew and his partner Nita of Newton, Kansas. He is predeceased by his parents, son Scott and two sisters, Judy (DeVore) Peters of Kansas and Mary Lou (Campbell) Martin of Michigan (formerly of Lower Drew). A remembrance Come & Go gathering of friends and family will be held at the Harriston Legion’s Maple Leaf Room on February 11, 2-4pm. Come in, share your memories.
