Van Den Borre, Remi Stefan; 1926-2011. Died peacefully March 25th in Woodstock with his family praying for him. Loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Remi leaves beloved Henriette (Fieremans), wife of 55 years. Children, Steve (Linda) Van den Borre, Josef (Mary) Van den Borre, Mark Van den Borre, Hilde (John Paul) Boon and Paul (Marilynn) Van den Borre. Nine grandchildren Melanie and Kate Van den Borre, Nicole, Scott and Shevonne Van den Borre, Christine and Jordan Boon and Sophie and Max Van den Borre. Also survived by two brothers Philimone (and the late Albine) Van den Borre and children Alice, Maria, Jeff and Lutgart in Belgium and Maurits (and the late Coby) Van den Borre and their daughter Ingrid (Lino) Couto-Van den Borre, Alexandra and Kendra. Predeceased by two brothers Joseph and Camiel. Remi emigrated to Canada with Henriette in 1956 shortly after their marriage. They settled in Aylmer, Ontario working on tobacco and apple farms followed by construction jobs. Remi and Henriette purchased his apple orchard in Burgessville in 1965 while Remi continued to work in construction. Remi expanded the orchard acreage for many years and proudly grew apples for the Norfolk Fruit Growers Co-operative in Simcoe. Remi and Henriette were leading edge innovators in the apple industry by planting some of the first dwarf apple trees in North America. Remi and Henriette retired in 1983 to Norwich where they enjoyed lawn bowling, gardening, winters in Florida, and helping at the farm. They enjoyed their later retirement in Woodstock. Friends were received at THE ARN-LOCKIE FUNERAL HOME, 45 Main St. W. Norwich (519) 863-3020 on Monday, March 28th, 2-4 & 7-9pm. Prayers were said on Monday at 4pm. Funeral Mass will be said at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Woodstock on Tuesday, March 29th at 11am with Father Rick Dales officiating. Cremation to follow.
