McDonald, Walter “Short”; Passed away peacefully at the Wellington Terrace, Fergus on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Beloved husband for 58 years of Jean (Hamilton) McDonald. Loving father of Bruce McDonald (Jane) of Marden, Sandra Good (Brad) of Guelph, Barbara McDonald of Fergus, Ronald McDonald of Brantford, Cathy Binkle (Greg) of Ennotville and Gordon McDonald of Guelph. Cherished grandfather of Scott, Sarah, Robbie, Adam, Megan, Tim, Tyler, Tara, Ryan (Carrie), Bryce, Becky, Seth and Jacob. Great grandfather of Grace. Dear brother of Ada Jean McDonald of Maryhill and Evelyn Hayes of Waterloo and the late Calvin McDonald. Predeceased by his parents Walter and Sadie McDonald. Short was a direct descendant of the original La Guayran settlers of 1827. He spent his life farming the original land at Marden. In 1950, he married Jean Hamilton and raised their family. Short will be remembered for his love of dairy farming, hunting, animals and the outdoors. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering was held at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph (from 2 to 4 p.m.) Saturday, January 17, 2009.
