Craig, Dorothy Mary; Peacefully at Wellington Terrace LTC Home, Fergus on Tuesday May 20, 2008 in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late William J. (Bill) Craig. Dear mother of David Craig and his fiancé Novelia Torok and Elgin Craig and his wife Joan , all of Arthur. Loving grandma of Stephanie, James, Lindsay and Richard and D`elle and Chet. Survived by sisters Marion Shaw of Tullamore and Margaret(Bernard) Cooper of Richmond Hill and sisters-in-law Betty Shaw and Ann Shaw. Lovingly remembered by the Craig family of Mayfield. Predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Robert (Ruth) Shaw, Marjorie (Jack) Wilson, Edith Shaw, Mabel (Clure) Cation, Bruce Shaw and John Shaw. Dorothy was born and raised at Tullamore in Peel County, the daughter of Everett and Mabel Shaw. She was the second eldest of nine in her close knit family. In 1938 Dorothy was honoured to represent Ontario at The 4H Congress in Chicago, Illinois. Dorothy married Bill on June 21, 1950 embarking on a lifetime together. She worked along with Bill on their farm where they raised their sons David and Elgin. Dorothy was a wonderful homemaker and community member. She was active in Mayfield United Church in the Sunday School, choir, U.C.W. and various outreach projects. In 1976, the family relocated to Arthur. Dorothy enjoyed new friendships as she entered into the work of the Centennial Women’s Institute, Arthur United Church Women and the Lady Directors of the Arthur Agricultural Society. She and Bill enjoyed the fellowship of the United Church Couple’s Club. One of Dorothy’s greatest joys was hosting others around her abundantly prepared dining table and whether you were working on the farm, visiting from overseas or stopping in for a friendly chat she made the most of your time together. Dorothy found great enjoyment in the interests and accomplishments of her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. The family received friends at the Crawford Funeral Home 243 George St., Arthur on Wednesday May 21, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held from Arthur United Church, Arthur on Thursday May 22, 2008 at 11am. Interment Greenfield Cemetery, Arthur followed. Remembrances to the Arthur United Church Women or Sleeping Children Around the World would be greatly appreciated by the family.
