Hastie, Viola; Vi Hastie (nee Cooper) passed away at her home in Elora, surrounded by the love of her family, on Thursday, February 7, 2008, in her 80th year. She was predeceased by her loving husband Ken Hastie (1965) and her son Grant (1957). Beloved mother of Dorothy (Ernie) Hayes, Harold (Jane) Hastie, Leone (Al) Spies, Jean (Fred) Armstrong, Janice (Bill) Langeder, Sherry (Brent) Wallace, Doug (Shirley) Hastie and Brian Hastie. She will be sadly missed by sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her good friends Vi and Cathy will also miss her. Predeceased by a sister Betty Cooper and brother Fred Cooper. Vi’s many friends visited the family at the Thomson & Collins Funeral Home, 160 St. David Street North, Fergus over the weekend. The funeral service was held in the chapel on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kees Vandermey officiating and Karen Aitken playing organ. Vi’s grandson’s, Gary Hayes, Ken and Blair Hastie, Jason and Jordan Armstrong and Jeff Spies served as pallbearers. Jack Cooper and Bill Elliott carried floral tributes and Jack, Grant Spies and Christine Fargo gave eulogies. Each granddaughter placed a single rose on the casket at the graveside. Following interment at Belsyde Cemetery, the family continued to visit with their friends at a reception in the Fellowship Hall of Knox (Elora) Presbyterian Church.
