Letter to the editor re: Mental health support available at Groves, November 17, 2017
Dear Editor:
The recent article announcing that Groves Hospital will now offer mental health services in its emergency department 24-hours a day, every day is great news for the community. I was also encouraged to see the provision of contact information for other mental health service providers in the area.
I want to inform readers about one agency that was overlooked as a local service provider—Family Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington (FCSSGW).
FCSSGW offers no appointment quick access walk-in psychotherapy from its office headquarters at 109 Surrey Street East in Guelph every Wednesday between 1 and 7 pm. Fees are on a sliding scale, though the inability to pay won’t keep anyone from receiving assistance.
Both the Fergus office, located at 400 Tower Street South, and the Guelph location provide appointment-based brief structured psychotherapy as another option for those seeking ongoing community-based counselling services.
At either site, clients don’t need a referral from a physician or a diagnosis to see one of the several highly qualified, unbiased psychotherapists on staff.
The agency provides safe and welcoming storefronts to treat everyone—including children, youth, adults, seniors, couples and families. Both offices are LGBTQ+ friendly and accessible to all with physical disabilities.
FCSSGW has been in operation for over 35 years and is part of a knowledge sharing network of Family Service agencies across the province that provides structured psychotherapy to more than 250,000 Ontarians a year in over 20 languages.
Staff members at FCSSGW are proud to play an essential role in fostering wellbeing to build a resilient Guelph-Wellington, and the agency continues to be one of the integral partners in the provision of mental health services in the community.
