Dear editor,
Hello, I’m a student at John Black. I’m writing a letter against Nestle selling our water. Nestle earns 11.55 billion dollars a year, and they only pay $3.71 cents per million liters of water.
Nestle’s CEO said that “water should not be a public right”. And Nestle convinced the World Water council to reduce access to drinking water from a right to a need. From a RIGHT to a NEED. So basically they’re saying, “no one should get water affordably. They should buy it from us!”
That is extremely unfair. Why does Nestle get to gain from our water if we, ourselves, have to pay for more for it. I think water should be free for the public, or at least at certain times of the day it should be free. Isn’t water what keeps us alive? Then why are we stuck buying water from Nestle? Sure it generates money, but water is what keeps us alive and Nestle is making profit of of it. Water shouldn’t be sold, it should be practically free for the people who really need it to survive. Do you think nestle should earn millions from our water?
Sincerely,
Zach Legesse
