Dear editor,
I think distracted driving is a real issue in our community. It is and can be really dangerous, and causes serious accidents and even death. Even though it is completely illegal, people still feel that it is important to text or answer calls while driving. Even if an adult looks at their phone for just half a second, they could lose control of the car or get hit. I have seen various adults talking on the phone or texting while they are driving, and it scares me. All incidents that include texting and driving can be prevented easily if people would simply turn off or silence their phone. It isn’t that difficult for somebody to stay off of their phone for a bit so that they can reach their destination safely. I wish distracted driving could be completely stopped, but in reality the law has been set and it is really up to everyone else to take responsibility and choose not to text and drive.
Sincerely,
Maddie Haslip
